Pride & Involvement

Who are you?
Hi I’m Lia and I'm a Support Engineer here at PW!
I identify as bisexual, but I don’t necessarily agree with the gender binary. For me, it’s about being attracted to people, regardless of their gender identities.

What are your views on Pride?
To me, pride means celebrating who we are, and also thanking those that fought for us in the past, while doing the same for the future generations.

What do you normally do for Pride?
As a bisexual person, I used to feel a bit uncomfortable celebrating it, thinking I’d be “stealing the spotlight” from those that usually face more struggles than I personally do. After quite a bit of thinking, reading and discussing, I have realised that my first step would be fighting my own internalised biphobia, so that’s what I’m doing for this year in addition to going to the Pride Parade in July.
In the upcoming years, I’ll also focus on creating a safer space for all minorities, including the LGBTQ+ within my community in the Tibetan Buddhist Centre in London where I volunteer as an Inclusivity Ambassador. -
What’s one piece of advice you would give to businesses for this pride month?
My advice to businesses would be for them to hire LGBTQ consultants and/or communicate with the community before releasing any products that are aimed at us, we’re tired of seeing so many big companies missing the point and delivering things that aren’t appropriate.
We need more consistency from businesses that profit from anything related to Pride. It isn’t inclusive to focus on marketing toward LGBTQ people in the West while doing the opposite in less progressive places
